Randy Van Camp
Founding Board Member / Veteran
Scott’s over 30-year Marine Corps journey took him from a young VMI graduate to commanding Marines across the Pacific and Middle East. Throughout his journey, Scott led Marines through some of our nation’s most challenging missions, including multiple combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, culminating with two back-to-back deployments commanding the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in 1st Marine Division.
Whether building critical partnerships as the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center’s commander in the Sierra Nevada mountains or shaping the future of the Marine Corps while serving as Chief of Staff to the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Scott’s career was defined by one constant: developing people and strengthening teams.
After his retirement and ongoing transition from active duty, Scott brought that same commitment to the private sector and National Security consulting, as well as helping fellow veterans find their footing in civilian life. He continues to provide service to the nation through his work with organizations like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and supporting the success of the Nation’s small businesses and finding ways to create pathways for veterans entering the workforce.
Scott holds a Master’s in National Security Studies from the U.S. Naval War College, a Master’s in Strategic Studies, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute.
Today, when he’s not contributing his strategic experience to Patriots’ Hall, you’ll find Scott hiking in the western mountains with his wife of 37 years or enjoying their adult children and granddaughter — still an outdoorsman at heart, still committed to conservation, and still devoted to ensuring no veteran walks their post-military journey alone.
