Charlie’s Garden

Cultivating Well-Being Through Nature, Connection, and Purpose

Charlie’s Garden enhances the well-being of veterans, service members, and their families in Central Texas by creating a peaceful, welcoming space for growing, connecting, and restoring. A place where healing happens naturally, through time in nature, shared work, and meaningful connection.

Our Story

Charlie’s Garden was made possible through the generous contribution of Susan Naylor, given in honor of her son, Charlie. From the beginning, the vision was simple and powerful: create a place where veterans could reconnect with the land, one another, and themselves with a renewed sense of purpose.

Developed and built by veteran volunteers as part of the Patriots’ Hall campus, the garden reflects a belief that healing can look different for everybody—and that community is often built through a shared purpose. In partnership with a veteran-owned business, Libertad Farms, Charlie’s Garden continues to grow as a shared space for learning, service, and belonging.

The Power of Nature, Connection, and Purpose

Charlie’s Garden is designed as a safe, peaceful environment that encourages participation at every level—whether that means actively working in the garden or simply spending time sitting in the garden. Our nature-based activities promote emotional, mental, and physical well-being while fostering peer connection and community.
For 2026, our goal is to expand our impact further by donating our surplus produce to other local organizations in need.

What We Do

Charlie’s Garden offers hands-on, nature-based opportunities that are welcoming, practical, and purpose-driven.
Activities and workshops include:

Gardening & Herbal Practices – Get hands-on experience in a range of gardening and herbal practices. From starting seeds to harvesting and everything in between.

Self-Reliance Skills – Learn skills that extend beyond the garden. We’ll be learning about composting methods, seed saving, food preservation, and more.

Ecosystem Integration – Learn how native plants, birds, and pollinators contribute to a thriving, balanced environment and how we can support our pollinator friends!

Community Work Days – Come meet other garden/nature lovers and help us keep Charlie’s Garden looking beautiful.

March 2026 Garden Newsletter

It seems that spring has sprung early this year, and that can be seen all over Charlie's Garden! The native plants are starting to pop their first few leaves out of the ground, our root veggies we planted over winter are thriving, and we are having tons of birds visiting the feeders. If you haven't had a chance to visit the garden this year we encourage you to take a quick walk through the garden to see what new life you can spot.
